Veteran Bollywood actress Rati Agnihotri as well as her husband Anil Virwani have been accused of stealing electricity. An FIR has been registered against the couple at Worli police station.
The vigilance squad of the BEST (Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport) had alleged that the electricity meter for Mrs Virwani’ Worli seaface penthouse was tampered with. The squad said that this illegal act from the actress has caused losses of around Rs. 47 lakh over a period of three years.
Talking about the matter, the Zonal Deputy Police Commissioner Pravin Padwal said that they have registered a case of electricity theft of Rs. 46.9 lakhs. Mr Pravi further said that a team of officers is investigating the issue. On the other side, Chief Vigilance Officer-BEST R J Singh said that that the electricity was pilfered in a tangled method.
Meanwhile, Rati’s spouse Anil Virwani said that, all three family members (Rati Agnihotri, him and their son Tanuj Virwani) were not present in Mumbai. He added that he was surprised when he came to know about the said matter. He said that there had been some misunderstanding.
Anil asserted that he would address the issue after returning to Mumbai. Clarifying his stance on the issue, the actress’s husband said that they had been residing in that apartment building for almost ten years now and no such incident had ever happened.
Mr Virwani also said that after the (BEST) officers wanted to see the home, he called two of his staff members who permitted them in. Rati’s husband was unhappy that he was not given a single chance to explain.
Further, General Manager- BEST Jagdish Patil told that a thorough scrutiny would be carried out with the assistance of the local police. He further said that they (BEST) would also be announcing a cash reward of Rs. 5000 for the informants in matters like this.
