According to some trade analysts, the movie may face obstructions as it stars Pakistani actress in leading role. After Uri attacks, some Indian political parties have been raising concerns over the involvement of Mahira in the star cast of the celluloid. This factor may affect the movie’s box office collection.
Another issue which can hinder the movie’s journey at box office is none other Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil, which is releasing on the same day (January 25). The two movies were earlier scheduled to be released on January 26. After filmmaker Rakesh Roshan preponed Kaabil‘s release, the release date of Raees also was shifted to one day before of Republic Day in India.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Gauri Khan under their banners Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment, the film is a pure work of fiction and is not based on any person; living or dead. Filmmakers have already denied the reports of the film’s story to be based on criminal Abdul Latif’s life.
Apart from the Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Pakistani heroine Mahira Khan and Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the movie also features Sunny Leone in special appearance. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sheeba Chaddha and Atul Kulkarni also will be seen in the leading characters.
Popular musician Ram Sampath has composed the music for the film. Illustrious lyricist Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics for songs Laila Mai Laila and Udi Udi Jaye which have been sung by Pavni Pandey and Sukhwinder Singh, Bhoomi Trivedi and Karsan Sagathia, respectively.
